Booking Terms & Conditions

Rates are in New Zealand dollars and are quoted per room, for one or two adults, including a full breakfast, use of all guest facilities, daily housekeeping, and Goods and Services Tax.

Booking and payment: advance reservations may be secured with a valid credit card guarantee. The credit card details you supply are held securely on our external reservations system server. No deposit is normally required to secure your reservation, though we may ask you for a deposit or full payment in advance of your arrival if your stay coincides with certain dates or special events. Some room rates and special offers may be conditional upon payment being made at the time of booking or in advance of arrival. Payment will otherwise become due upon check-in.

Cancellation: PLEASE SEE AMENDMENT BELOW. As a small seasonal business, late cancellations have a significant effect on us. No cancellation charges will be incurred for accommodation booked and subsequently cancelled up to 30 days before the check-in date. Confirmed reservations which are cancelled between 30 and 21 days before the expected date of arrival are subject to a cancellation fee of 50% of the reserved accommodation cost. Cancellations notified to us within 21 days of the arrival date, and no-shows, are charged at the full cost of the reserved accommodation. Please be aware that our cancellation and no-show policy is strictly applied and we are unlikely to make any exceptions, irrespective of the cause.


Following the November 14 earthquake which affected transport routes around Kaikoura, we appreciate that there remains some uncertainty surrounding guests’ travel arrangements. Cancellation fees will not apply to bookings made after 14 November 2016, provided cancellation is notified to us no later than 72 hours ahead of the arrival date.

Insurance: we strongly recommend the purchase of a travel insurance policy to mitigate the potential costs arising from unexpected changes or unforeseen disruption to your travel plans, such as might be caused by adverse weather conditions or natural events, flight or ferry delays, vehicle breakdown, illness, accident, personal injury, family emergency, or bereavement.

Children: we regret that we are unable to accommodate children under 12. We are unable to accept pets at any time.

Acceptance of terms: by making a reservation with us, you are deemed to have accepted our booking terms and cancellation policy, and in the event of a charge having to be made, you agree that your credit card be debited with the applicable amount that becomes due.

Check-In: we welcome your arrival from 3pm. If you wish to check-in before 3pm, PLEASE CALL US IN ADVANCE. If you are likely to arrive after 7pm, we would appreciate if you would let us know. Our cut-off time for check-in is 10pm. Guests arriving at the property after this time may find our reception closed.

Check-out: latest check-out time is 10.30am unless alternative arrangements are requested in advance.

Arrival by train or bus: please note that apart from a taxi service there is no public transport in the area around Kaikoura, and we recommend that guests arriving by train or bus rent a car for the duration of their stay with us. By prior arrangement we endeavour to offer a complimentary pick-up and drop-off service for arriving guests, but this cannot be guaranteed during our main operating season.

Self-catering: please note that we do not offer any self-catering faciltiies at Manakau Lodge. Guests are welcome to use our kitchen fridges for storing groceries or chilling wine, but our kitchen is not for guests’ use.
